Spin squeezing in optical lattice clocks via lattice- based QND measurements

چکیده
Quantum projection noise will soon limit the best achievable precision of optical atomic clocks based on lattice-confined neutral atoms. Squeezing the collective atomic pseudo-spin via measurement of the clock state populations during Ramsey interrogation suppresses the projection noise. We show here that the lattice laser field can be used to perform ideal quantum nondemolition measurements without clock shifts or decoherence and explore the feasibility of such an approach in theory with the lattice field confined in a ringresonator. Detection of the motional sideband due to the atomic vibration in the lattice wells can yield signal sizes a hundredfold above the projection noise limit.

Quantum noise squeezing and entanglement on the atomic clock transition
Squeezing of quantum fluctuations by means of entanglement is a well recognized goal in the field of quantum information science and precision measurements. In particular, squeezing the fluctuations via entanglement between two-level atoms can improve the precision of atom clocks and of spectroscopy in general [1, 2]. Here, we demonstrate 3.4 dB of metrologically relevant squeezing and entangle...

We theoretically demonstrate a viable approach to spin squeezing in optical lattice clocks via optical dressing of one clock state to a highly excited Rydberg state, generating switchable atomic interactions. For realistic experimental parameters, these interactions are shown to generate over 10 dB of squeezing in large ensembles within a few microseconds and without degrading the subsequent cl...
متن کاملSpin-spin interaction and spin-squeezing in an optical lattice
We show that by displacing two optical lattices with respect to each other, we may produce interactions similar to the ones describing ferro-magnetism in condensed matter physics. We also show that particularly simple choices of the interaction lead to spin-squeezing, which may be used to improve the sensitivity of atomic clocks. Spin-squeezing is generated even with partially, and randomly, fi...
متن کاملEntanglement and spin squeezing in a network of distant optical lattice clocks
We propose an approach for the collective enhancement of precision for remote optical lattice clocks and a way of generating the Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen (EPR) state of remote clocks. In the first scenario, a distributed spin-squeezed state (SSS) of M clocks is generated by a collective optical quantum nondemolition measurement on clocks with parallel Bloch vectors. Surprisingly, optical losses,...
